In the Autumn of 2010, the children of Grove Primary School, Totnes, UK, created a beautiful mural of 10 ceramic mosaic panels for the new Heath’s Garden in Totnes town centre.
Until about 30 years ago this was agricultural land, where Mr Heath grew fruit and vegetables for the town, but, when all the market gardens were turned into car parks, this small strip became a rather neglected walkway to the High Street. Now, thanks to the generousity of local Charities , businesses, and LEAT funding, it has been transformed into a public garden.
I worked with all the 30 children in Year 6, assisting their research, design, and creation of ceramic mosaics illustrating the history of this patch of land, while Richard Bent made the steel frames to protect and complement the panels.
The complete process from the beginning of design and making, through to installation and Celebration can be seen on flickr
