RE-AWAKENING: Mythic Garden sculpture exhibition 2020
RE-AWAKENING: The Mythic Garden 2020 sculpture exhibition at Stone Lane arboretum, near Chagford, UK on the edge of Dartmoor, is now open until the end of October.
A wide variety of artworks are displayed among the beautiful birch and alder trees, I am very happy to have five glass and steel sculptures in this year’s exhibition.
Stone Lane Gardens was created by Kenneth and June Ashburner.
In the early 1970’s Kenneth, avid traveller and plant finder, began planting the trees he had grown from seeds gathered on his travels and from other botanic gardens. Gradually the garden expanded as the Ashburners bought land, until it took the shape it is today.
In 1992 June felt that the gardens would be an idea backdrop for an open air sculpture exhibition and “The Mythic Garden” annual sculpture exhibition was born
In 2019 Stone Lane Gardens became an RHS Partner Garden.
The gardens have both ‘National Collection and Scientific Status’ in recognition of the importance of the diversity and rarity of the trees and acknowledgement of the great work Kenneth Ashburner had done to extend and promote knowledge of birch and alder species – work that continues today under the stewardship of Garden Manager, Paul Bartlett.
